Practice Description

Mr. Meyer is Senior Counsel to the Firm, primarily focused on patent prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO"), Intellectual Property portfolio creation & management, inter
partes review ("IPR") proceedings in the USPTO, and intellectual property litigation in the U.S courts.

Mr. Meyer is a seasoned patent attorney with 30+ years of experience representing companies in nearly all phases of intellectual property law. He has a successful track record of litigating patent infringement actions in both the Federal Courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission ("ITC"), invalidating patents in I
PR proceedings, prosecuting patent applications across a broad array of technologies, and rendering opinions of counsel to clients addressing patent infringement and validity issues.

Mr. Meyer has extensive experience developing, managing and maximizing the value of large patent portfolios for international companies, including managing and overseeing the work of the patent attorneys and agents assigned to those portfolios.

Mr. Meyer has also acted as lead attorney in numerous IPR proceedings involving catalysts, catalyzed chemical reactions and electrical motors, including forming and managing the IPR team, developing the patent invalidity grounds, preparing the IPR petitions, and successfully arguing before the USTPO's Patent Trial and Appeal Board (“PTAB”) and successfully defending the favorable Final Written Decisions before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. He also successfully invalidated patent claims asserted in patent infringement suits through numerous ex parte reexamination requests filed with the USPTO.

Mr. Meyer has significant first and second chair experience in patent infringement litigations before federal district courts, including forming and managing the litigation team, developing the overall legal strategy, Markman hearings, summary judgment hearings, and coordinating expert testimony. He has successfully concluded many patent infringement suits through the strategic use of Markman claim construction proceedings and case-dispositive summary judgment motions, thereby avoiding the expense and uncertainty of a jury trial.

Mr. Meyer has also served as a co-chair of the American Intellectual Property Lawyer Association's (""AIPLA") IP in Japan Committee. As a frequent member of the AIPLA's annual Delegation to Japan, he has given presentations to the Tokyo IP High Court, the Japan Patent Office, and Japanese patent attorney organizations on current patent prosecution and patent litigation issues.

Prior to joining Weitzman IP, Mr. Meyer was a partner with Morgan & Finnegan LLP and then with Locke Lord LLP.

Prior to his legal career Mr. Meyer held the position of nuclear safety & licensing engineer at the New York Power Authority.
